About the Program
Federal
employees have the unique advantage of being able to support their
favorite charities through payroll deduction. The Combined Federal
Campaign generates millions of dollars of support for the
nonprofit community each year, thanks to the generosity of thousands of
government employees. When these employees retire from federal
service, their ability to participate in the annual campaign abruptly
comes to a halt.
In
2006, volunteers with United Way of the Greater Dayton Area began
brainstorming on ways to restore the charitable benefits lost to
thousands of local retirees. The result was Miami Valley FORGE -
Funding Opportunities for Retired Government Employees. This unique
system allows federal retirees to continue supporting their favorite
charities across the country through microdonations, much like the
benefits of payroll deduction they used to receive. Now all local
federal retirees can take advantage of this vehicle for community
support right from the comfort of their own homes.
How It Works
Step
1: Become a Member!
All retired federal employees
are eligible for a free FORGE account. Signing up is quick
and easy - click

to become a member today! You can register to simply receive
information about the program, or you can start making your donations
right now.
Step 2:
Pick the Payment Method That Works for You
FORGE
was designed to give you flexibility when it comes to
charity. Gifts can be paid by check or credit card, but by
linking your gift to your checking or savings account, you can have
your donations broken up and automatically withdrawn at regular
intervals throughout the year. Whether you want the feel of
payroll deduction or prefer to make your payment all at once, the
choice is up to you! Step 3: Who Would You Like
to Support?
Hundreds of agencies can benefit from
gifts powered by FORGE. 25% of your annual contribution is
allocated to United Way of the Greater Dayton Area in order to support
our local network of services. Should you wish to support additional
nonprofit organizations, simply browse through the system's online
directory to designate your gift to your agencies of choice. Step 4: How Much Would You
Like to Give?
Whether your annual gift is $100 or
$100,000, every donation makes an impact in our community.
FORGE can handle contributions of all shapes and sizes!
Step 5:
Confirm Your Gift
Once you've made your choices,
simply confirm your gift. Everything else is automatically
handled by the FORGE systems. Should you wish to donate to
additional agencies throughout the year, you can always come back and
add them to your portfolio. Our goal is to make helping your
